The Butterslide 180 is a good stylish trick that helps you learn board control, can be used as an alternate to the ollie 180 to switch your riding direction, and is just a fun way to play around on the wake. The version of the Butterslide 180 we are showing here is a frontside Butterslide 180.
Approach the wake very slowly on your toeside. You want to have enough speed to ride up the wake, but that's about it. |
As get to the top of the wake, kick the tail of the board inside the wake as you pull your front foot back towards you. If you have a hard time doing this, try ollie-ing up a couple inches and turning the board like this in the air. |
Slide the board sideways, so that your weight is even on both feet, and the only part of the board touching the water is the center of the board which is riding on top of the wake. Lean back and keep the rope in tight to your hips the whole time. Catching the toeside edge is not fun. |
Hold the slide for as long as you like. When you're done, pull the handle to your back hip and slide that foot towards the boat while sliding your front foot back towards the wake. |
After you're into your switch riding stance, ride down the wake away from the boat and edge away from the wake on your toes. |
